In Ghibli Studio, there are two restaurants, one is the straw hat cafe, the other is the hot dog stand. This cafe is always busy. It's permanently occupied by six year old kids and their parents. The price doesn't seem to be more expensive than the restaurants outside (perhaps that's why it's always busy).
This is what I call cheap food. Lunch for Y320 (the noodle) + Y100 (an extra egg). The component is made of a vegetarian noodle plus a raw egg. I didn't know I was ordering a raw egg. I just punched the keys in the vending machines, it spat out some tickets... it said something about the moon. And the moon turned out to be a raw egg.
30/10/06 8:48 am The news on the TV spent an hour talking about how a ship wreck in East Japanese Sea had jeopardized the supply of the seafood. Hundreds of expert invited, hundreds people interviewed, delicious looking seafood was demonstrated, the cover is much more expansive than the news of their prime minister... it seems seafood has a very high priority in Japan.
The tofu salad is only 500Y, good value... I thought it was vegetarian but then found out it was covered with little fish.
Less than US$5, with a window seat of the Hakodate night... what a deal!
The deer biscuit is for the deer--not made of deer. Whatever you do, don't eat it youself. If mistakenly eaten, it will turn a person into a deer. Many deer in Nara Park were former tourists who couldn't read the Japanese instructions.
Coco house has a large selection of curry dishes. Can allow customer to select spicy level and rice quantity. English menu available.
The curry restaurant is along the main road outside the JR station. 550Y for an eggplant curry dinner (not exactly vegetarian, but close enough).
Note: the GPS location on this picture is a bit off, it should be closer to the JR train station, not the park (probably about 20 minutes west of the location shown on the map).
